Academic Expectations

World Academy expects its students to be proud of their academic work. The school expects and requires that all work submitted for assessment by teachers is of the student’s own creation and cases of copying, or unauthorized outside help in the completion of school work, may result in disciplinary action. A student who is caught cheating in a school examination or test will automatically be given a mark of ‘zero’ for that test or examination. Copying of homework, or plagiarism in the production of a student’s work, will be dealt with severely.

All students are required to meet the deadlines set by the school for the submission of homework, projects and any work which forms part of the assessment of an external examination, or required for a university or other application. A student who fails an end of year examination is required to pass a ‘make up’ examination in August before promotion to the next grade can be confirmed. World Academy expects its students to be responsible learners in all aspects of their lives. The school recognizes that its roll in educating the whole person goes beyond the academic instruction of the classroom. We teach students to maintain the highest standards of behavior, good manners and grooming at all times.

Each student therefore has a responsibility to set an example which other members of the community will be proud to follow.

  • Care for the environment by keeping the school clean and tidy. Those that who do not will be required to clean up.
  • Show tolerance of, and respect for, the rights, work and opinions of others.
  • Participate fully in the life of the school.
  • Be responsible and accept accountability for their actions and learning.
  • Be punctual.
When a student’s academic performance or social behavior falls below the expectations of the school for an extended period the student may be placed ‘on report’ for a specific period of time and a letter may be sent to his/her parents alerting them to the school’s concern. In cases of ongoing academic or social problems, a student and his/her parents, may be required to sign an academic or behavioral agreement which details the course(s) of action to be taken and the consequences of failure to comply.
